My work as a whole is like one big self portrait often incorporating fond memories, my interests/hobbies, my identity, and my emotions. Majority of my work is tied to childhood memories. I think in a lot of ways there is still that little kid in me that has an innate desire to learn and grow, which is why I love using a large variety of mediums and techniques. I can’t confine myself to one medium because there’s no one material that could describe me. I do however find myself frequently incorporating different fabrics in my work because I feel that they have a memory-like quality to them.
I focus mainly on traditional methods of art making such as painting, sewing, weaving, and crafting. With a variety of materials I aim to learn a variety of techniques. I love exploring themes of fairytale, fantasy, and dress-up in my work because it reminds me of the joys of being a child. My series of hats inspired by women's hats from the 1800s is an example of my “dress-up” works. I want my work to invoke joy and happy memories. At the end of the day I am making things that my childhood self would be overjoyed to see.
